Requirements
- Have 8+ years of professional software engineering experience specializing in database systems and data infrastructure.
- Bring expert-level PostgreSQL proficiency, including production query tuning, replication topology, and debugging vacuum and locking issues.
- Understand database architecture trade-offs, including normalization, denormalization, indexing, partitioning, and connection pooling at scale.
- Have experience designing zero-downtime migration workflows in high-volume production environments.
- Have experience with graph databases such as Neo4j or equivalent.
- Be proficient with time-series or columnar stores such as ClickHouse, TimescaleDB, or equivalent.
- Have run production-scale database systems in Kubernetes or cloud-managed environments such as RDS or Cloud SQL.
- Be proficient in Go or Python for building tooling, access layers, and migration infrastructure.
- Have set engineering standards and driven database design decisions across teams.
- Have experience mentoring mid-level engineers through database design and code reviews.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction for database systems, including schema design, data modeling, indexing, and query contracts.
- Analyze query execution plans, improve performance, and design observability systems to catch regressions.
- Own reliability for data stores, including replication, failover, backup validation, capacity planning, and incident response.
- Design and own a safe production migration framework with zero-downtime and reversible changes.
- Review application teams' schemas, query patterns, and ORM usage, and set database access patterns.
- Mentor P4 engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical pairing.
