Requirements
- Know modern Python typing deeply, including generics, protocols, overloads, and TypedDict.
- Use strict type checking and resolve type errors without reaching for Any.
- Have authored or maintained a published library with a public API and users outside your own company.
- Understand open-source maintenance, including issue triage, reviewing external pull requests, release automation, changelogs, semantic versioning, and security reports.
- Be fluent in asyncio and understand how libraries can serve both sync and async callers.
- Know Python library packaging, including pyproject.toml, wheels, modern tooling, version support policies, and dependency ranges.
- Test with unit, type-level, and end-to-end tests against a real stack, and provide regression tests for fixes.
- Write design documents, changelogs, and issue replies clearly.
- Be able to identify, scope, and ship work autonomously.
- Have experience working in async or globally distributed teams.
Responsibilities
- Build and evolve the Python SDK across database, auth, storage, realtime, and functions, with sync and async APIs.
- Identify missing SDK capabilities, make the case for them, and build them.
- Triage issues, review outside contributions, and maintain CI and release automation.
- Improve typing so the SDK works well with autocomplete, static analysis, and strict type checking.
- Test compatibility across Python versions, sync and async frameworks, workers, serverless environments, and notebooks.
- Implement realtime behavior for websocket connections, reconnection, subscriptions, and presence.
- Keep the SDK current with changes to auth, realtime, storage, PostgREST, and edge functions, and communicate changes in the changelog.
- Write RFCs, migration guides, release notes, and documentation, and help make the SDK legible to AI coding agents.
