Requirements
- Have native-level proficiency in French Canadian.
- Have excellent written and spoken English and the ability to understand source content accurately.
- Hold a degree in Applied Linguistics, Translation, or a related field, or have equivalent professional experience.
- Have strong IT skills and experience using SDL Trados Studio and other computer-assisted translation tools.
- Bring strong editorial and/or journalistic skills and current knowledge of language usage and terminology.
- Have familiarity with US American culture and popular culture to localize wordplay, cultural references, and visual cues.
- Be able to work confidentially with sensitive information.
- Be flexible with changing priorities, demanding workloads, and tight deadlines.
- Be available to travel when required by the project.
- Have good availability, potentially including at least four hours per day, and respond quickly to requests.
- Be available for occasional intensive work periods, including several consecutive full working days when required.
- Be able to work independently and reliably as a freelance professional.
Responsibilities
- Translate and localize marketing content, IT materials, computer-related documentation, and other assigned content into French Canadian.
- Proofread and review translations for accuracy, fluency, and project-specific compliance.
- Perform linguistic quality assurance checks before submitting deliverables.
- Maintain terminology consistency using translation memories, glossaries, and style guides.
- Adapt cultural references, wordplay, and visual references for French Canadian audiences.
- Keep up with language developments, editorial standards, and terminology trends.
- Handle sensitive content and project information confidentially.
- Meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing project priorities and workloads.
