Requirements
- Strong Java development experience, ideally in enterprise environments and complex existing systems.
- Hands-on experience with Java application development, maintenance, refactoring, and modernization.
- At least 3 months of hands-on Copilot use as the primary AI code-generation tool within a team project, or at least 6 months of practical experience with comparable AI coding tools.
- Practical experience with shared, structured AI development workflows, particularly reverse engineering and/or Spec-Driven Development (SDD).
- Hands-on experience using AI-assisted workflows for test generation.
- Practical experience refactoring existing Java systems to remove or replace legacy dependencies.
- Ability to understand and navigate unfamiliar, complex codebases.
- Solid software engineering fundamentals, including clean code, automated testing, version control, and collaborative development practices.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with technical teams and stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience with Java 17 and Java 21 is a plus.
- Experience with SQL relational databases and familiarity with NoSQL databases are a plus.
Responsibilities
- Work hands-on with complex, existing Java applications and enterprise codebases.
- Analyze and reverse-engineer systems to understand architecture, dependencies, business logic, and technical constraints.
- Use AI-assisted development tools for code generation, analysis, refactoring, testing, and documentation.
- Apply structured AI development approaches, including reverse engineering, Spec-Driven Development (SDD), and automated test generation.
- Refactor and modernize Java applications, including removing or replacing legacy dependencies and outdated components.
- Generate and improve automated tests to support safe modernization and refactoring.
- Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to turn requirements and existing system behavior into maintainable technical solutions.
- Help establish repeatable AI-assisted development practices for engineering teams.
- Maintain code quality, maintainability, testing, and software engineering best practices.
