Experience
8+ years of experience in product management, hardware product, or systems engineering roles on physical products

Requirements

  • Have a hardware background through an engineering degree in mechanical, electrical, systems, or a similar field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Bring 8+ years of experience in product management, hardware product, or systems engineering roles on physical products.
  • Have a track record of taking hardware from concept to production and understand how requirements evolve across prototype and sample stages.
  • Have industrial design experience through formal training or close work with industrial designers on shipped products.
  • Bring strong instincts for HMI and human factors.
  • Write clear, testable requirements from real-world scenarios, with acceptance criteria and verification methods such as test, analysis, inspection, or demonstration.
  • Have experience building working relationships with OEMs and suppliers and understand how they develop, source, and deliver hardware.
  • Be willing to be on site regularly for mock-ups, vehicle evaluations, and testing.
  • Autonomous vehicle or robotaxi experience, especially rider experience, external communication with road users, or first responder interaction, is a bonus.
  • Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, and A/B/C sample phases is a bonus.
  • Exposure to functional safety and AV safety standards such as ISO 26262, SOTIF (ISO 21448), or UL 4600, or to vehicle regulations, is a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Own product requirements for Waabi's hardware platform across trucks and robotaxi, turning field and integration feedback into requirements for future revisions and new vehicle platforms.
  • Define how vehicles interact with riders, law enforcement, first responders, and the public, including exterior communication and signaling, cabin monitoring and security, in-cabin safety, and resilience to tampering and vandalism.
  • Lead product definition for new hardware programs before engineering kickoff, translating real-world scenarios into requirements with acceptance criteria and verification and validation plans.
  • Apply industrial design and human factors perspectives to displays, lighting, reach, and controls.
  • Validate physical touchpoints hands-on in mock-ups and real vehicles.
  • Build relationships with OEM and supplier partners and align requirements with their constraints and processes.
  • Represent hardware in cross-functional product decisions about feasibility, cost, and scope.
