Requirements
- Bring deep, production-proven PostgreSQL expertise, including query planner internals, advanced indexing, partitioning, logical replication, vacuuming at scale, and connection pool tuning.
- Have experience architecting multi-tenant databases at scale, including row-level security, tenant isolation, and schema-per-tenant versus shared-schema tradeoffs.
- Have experience with production schema migrations at scale, including zero-downtime migrations, backwards-compatible schema evolution, and migration tooling such as Flyway or golang-migrate.
- Be familiar with graph data models and graph databases such as Neo4j or AWS Neptune, or graph-like relational query patterns such as recursive CTEs, ltree, or adjacency lists.
- Be proficient in Go or Python and able to write production application code, not just SQL.
- Have a track record defining database architecture at scale from design through production across multiple companies or teams.
- Be able to reason about data architecture tradeoffs, including normalization versus denormalization, consistency versus availability, OLTP versus OLAP separation, and schema-first versus schema-last design.
- Be able to communicate complex database decisions clearly in design documents, ADRs, and cross-team reviews.
- Have experience driving database standards across teams without direct reporting authority.
- Have experience establishing database engineering practices for schema reviews, migration safety, and query performance reviews.
- Have a track record of developing engineers through code review, pair programming, and architectural mentorship.
- Be able to travel up to 5% as required.
Responsibilities
- Define the technical roadmap for the Database Platform with engineering leadership and the Pentest Platform organization.
- Own database architecture decisions covering schema design, partitioning, migration patterns, and scalability.
- Produce design documents that establish the shared technical model for the team.
- Set PostgreSQL standards for query optimization, indexing, partitioning, replication, and connection pooling.
- Architect and guide the evolution of NodeZero's graph-based asset model.
- Own schema design reviews and ensure migrations are safe, reversible, and zero-downtime.
- Build tooling and practices for treating schema changes with the rigor of production code changes.
- Mentor P5 and P4 engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and pairing.
- Partner with Data Ingestion, Asset Inventory, API Platform, and Security Research on data contracts, query performance standards, and architectural guardrails.
