Requirements
- Have 5+ years of backend development experience, including at least 2 years focused on data platforms and backend infrastructure for data-centric applications.
- Bring experience with transactional systems, event pipelines, and the APIs that serve them.
- Demonstrate strong SQL proficiency and production experience using PostgreSQL as an application database.
- Write and tune SQL queries by hand and reason about schema design, indexes, and query plans.
- Have hands-on experience with data streaming and event processing using Kafka or an equivalent such as RabbitMQ, Pulsar, Amazon Kinesis, or another cloud-based equivalent.
- Be proficient in Julia or Python.
- Have experience deploying and operating services in containerized environments.
- Be familiar with Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and/or Helm.
- Have experience with GraphQL and TypeScript/JavaScript (Node.js).
- Be able to collaborate across disciplines and communicate effectively in written and verbal, asynchronous, remote-friendly settings.
Responsibilities
- Design and scale backend systems for data infrastructure, including PostgreSQL data models, Kafka-driven event pipelines, and GraphQL APIs.
- Lead the design and integration of services and components for data and event processing.
- Own the pipelines that deliver dataset snapshots into the warehouse.
- Collaborate with platform and application teams to implement APIs that support new workflows.
- Translate product, scientific, clinical, and internal stakeholder requirements into integrations, services, and solutions.
- Implement features with attention to data integrity, design soundness, and maintainability.
- Draft RFCs to guide complex feature discovery and technical design decisions.
- Improve operational robustness and ease of use through documentation, tools, and dashboards.
