Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Relevant experience in public accounting or outsourced accounting, with increasing complexity, scope, and number of engagements managed.
  • Typically 5-10 years’ experience; the expected experience depends on the type of experience.
  • CPA preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency with modern accounting technology such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Bill.com, Nexonia, Excel, and Generative AI.
  • Ability to organize projects, set priorities, and delegate tasks across changing circumstances and different clients.
  • Ability to lead the planning and implementation of assigned projects.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive firm and client information.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring in new business.
  • Complete a minimum of forty hours of continuing professional education each year.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting operations and deliverables for a portfolio of nonprofit and/or government contractor clients.
  • Ensure timely monthly closes, financial reporting, and compliance with grant and contract requirements.
  • Serve as the primary contact for ongoing client communications and present financial results and insights to client leadership.
  • Coordinate client onboarding by establishing workflows, timelines, and expectations.
  • Plan, schedule, and staff engagements; delegate work and support staff development.
  • Monitor engagement budgets, time budgets, and resource utilization, and assist with billing.
  • Review internal controls, staff work programs, financial statements, and supporting schedules for compliance with GAAP, regulations, and firm standards.
  • Coach and supervise Staff and Senior Accountants, mentor Supervisors as needed, and participate in the department coaching program.
  • Identify process improvements, automation opportunities, and advisory insights; contribute to practice and proposal development.
  • Keep partners and leadership informed of significant developments, analyze issues, and recommend solutions.
