Requirements
- 5+ years managing database, DevOps, or SRE teams.
- Hands-on cloud infrastructure experience; GCP is strongly preferred, with AWS or similar also relevant.
- Experience with relational and non-relational databases, including AlloyDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, or MongoDB.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code such as Crossplane, Cuelang, Terraform, Ansible, or similar.
- Experience running identity and access management programs and modern observability and monitoring stacks.
- Experience building incident management practices that hold up under pressure.
- Experience managing cloud costs, vendor relationships, committed-use or reserved-capacity strategy, contract negotiation, and budgets.
- Grounding in security best practices and compliance requirements relevant to a consumer platform.
- Ability to mentor technical leads and delegate effectively.
- Experience in a technology startup environment is a plus.
- Relevant DevOps, Cloud, or SRE certifications are a plus.
Responsibilities
- Own cloud database infrastructure, capacity planning, and database vendor management, including commitment/CUD strategy and spend accountability.
- Support identity and access modernization, including appropriate limits on high-risk access and an emergency break-glass mechanism.
- Build data services for data aging, archiving, and retention over a multi-year cycle.
- Contribute to a database observability framework covering logging, metrics, and actionable alerting.
- Lead high-availability operations for peak live events, including on-call design, war-room readiness, staffing plans, and vendor escalation coordination.
- Own the data side of business continuity and disaster recovery planning and execution.
- Partner with Infrastructure on shared systems, caching, messaging/queues, and application and data infrastructure boundaries.
- Maintain database security and compliance through vulnerability remediation, edge security, access controls, and audit support.
- Manage database vendor relationships, contracts, budgets, and negotiations; develop technical leads and delegate ownership.
- Represent DBRE in cross-functional planning and prioritize a multi-quarter infrastructure roadmap.
