Requirements
- Have 5+ years managing database, DevOps, or SRE teams.
- Bring deep hands-on experience in cloud infrastructure; GCP is strongly preferred, with AWS or similar also relevant.
- Have experience with relational and non-relational databases, including AlloyDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, or MongoDB.
- Have experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Crossplane, Cuelang, Terraform, or Ansible.
- Have experience running identity and access management programs and modern observability or monitoring stacks.
- Have experience building incident management practices that hold up under pressure.
- Have a track record of managing cloud costs, vendor relationships, committed-use or reserved capacity strategy, contract negotiation, and budgets.
- Have a solid grounding in security best practices and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrate the ability to mentor technical leads and delegate effectively.
- DevOps, Cloud, or SRE certifications are a plus; startup experience is also a plus.
Responsibilities
- Own cloud database infrastructure, capacity planning, vendor management, and database spend accountability.
- Support the identity and access modernization program, including limits on high-risk access and an emergency break-glass mechanism.
- Build data services for data aging, archiving, and retention over a multi-year cycle.
- Contribute to a database observability framework for logging, metrics, and actionable alerting.
- Lead high-availability operations for major live events, including on-call design, war-room readiness, staffing plans, and vendor escalations.
- Own the data side of business continuity and disaster recovery planning and execution.
- Partner with Infrastructure on shared systems, caching, messaging and queues, and application/data infrastructure boundaries.
- Maintain database security and compliance through vulnerability remediation, edge security, access controls, and audit support.
- Manage database vendor relationships and contracts, including budget ownership and negotiation.
- Develop technical leads, delegate ownership, represent DBRE in cross-functional planning, and prioritize a multi-quarter infrastructure roadmap.
