Requirements
- Live in Colorado.
- Have 3+ years of reporting experience in journalism.
- Have a focus on politics, policy, or public affairs; state and local experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrate the ability to consistently report, write, and file well-researched, thoroughly reported stories.
- Have strong reporting and writing skills, including sourcing, interviewing, research, and fact-checking.
- Be deeply familiar with Colorado’s politics, institutions, and key issues.
- Align with COURIER’s mission to provide fact-based, people-centered reporting that strengthens civic participation and democracy.
Responsibilities
- Produce original political reporting for the Colorado newsroom on a story-by-story basis.
- Report on federal, state, and local policy decisions and their effects on Colorado residents.
- Deliver up to 6 stories per month focused on Colorado politics, policy, and civic life.
- Refine story angles and incorporate feedback.
- Conduct rigorous research, interviews, and fact-checking.
- Reach out to impacted community members, subject-matter experts, and key political actors.
- Meet COURIER’s journalistic standards and style.
