Requirements
- Bring 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial experience as a Senior, Lead, Staff, Principal, or equivalent individual contributor on complex systems.
- Have deep expertise in at least one major technical area, such as backend engineering with Java/Spring Boot, microservices, scalable system design, PostgreSQL/MySQL, NoSQL, Kafka, REST APIs, AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Alternatively, bring strong frontend expertise with React and TypeScript, including component architecture, performance optimization, testing, and modern build and CI tooling.
- Be able to reason across the full technology stack, even when technical depth is concentrated in backend or frontend development.
- Have experience designing and operating highly available, secure, scalable, and observable production systems.
- Understand unit, integration, and contract testing, and CI/CD practices such as GitHub Actions.
- Demonstrate the ability to produce technical designs that other engineers can review, challenge, and implement.
- Show influence and leadership without relying on formal management authority, and communicate technical trade-offs clearly to stakeholders.
- Bring a product mindset and the ability to participate in roadmap discussions and assess technical feasibility.
- Have strong mentorship skills and a track record of helping engineering teams become more capable and effective.
- Have strong English communication skills; Spanish is a plus for collaboration across Latin America.
- Experience in financial applications, payments, or regulated Latin American markets is advantageous.
- Experience with platform engineering, developer experience, shared libraries, internal tools, or AI-assisted engineering workflows is desirable.
- Deep AWS experience, including EKS, RDS, or MSK, and/or experience with application security, authentication, or software supply-chain security is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Lead cross-team architecture and system design across product pods, services, APIs, data models, and event flows.
- Define and promote standards for code quality, testing, observability, security, reliability, and maintainability.
- Write production code, contribute to pull requests, pair with engineers, and participate in technical reviews.
- Drive technical strategy with engineering leadership and product stakeholders, making trade-offs around sequencing, technical debt, platform investments, and system evolution.
- Create technical design documents and RFCs to support review and execution of architectural decisions.
- Mentor Senior and Mid-level engineers through design reviews, pairing, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
- Provide technical input to hiring and assessment processes.
- Lead or co-lead responses to high-severity incidents and ensure durable remediation.
- Design and improve systems for availability, security, scalability, performance, and operational excellence.
- Identify opportunities to simplify systems, improve developer experience, automate workflows, and contribute to shared platforms, internal tools, libraries, and AI-assisted engineering workflows.
