Requirements

  • Deep production experience with Python backend engineering, including designing, building, and owning APIs at scale.
  • Experience taking technical ownership of production systems and serving as a senior escalation point for complex backend issues.
  • Experience leading a significant decoupling, migration, or architectural transformation of a live system without disrupting critical dependencies.
  • Strong proficiency with FastAPI and SQL.
  • Experience designing systems where data accuracy, performance, reliability, and explainability are critical.
  • Ability to establish technical direction across organizational boundaries and negotiate service contracts and ownership models.
  • Strong product engineering judgment to balance speed, accuracy, and explainability.
  • Experience using AI coding tools such as Claude or similar in everyday engineering workflows.
  • Ability to design and implement multi-agent engineering workflows that improve team development throughput.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to influence senior engineers and stakeholders without formal authority.
  • Energy pricing, fintech, financial systems, or modern utility platform experience is desirable.
  • Experience building APIs for external third parties is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AWS, serverless architectures, Lambda, event-driven services, and PostgreSQL on RDS is beneficial.
  • Experience with Polars or a track record of optimizing numerical and data-processing code is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Build, evolve, and operate the Pricing API for reliable, accurate pricing and third-party consumption.
  • Extract pricing logic into a dedicated service and establish maintainable boundaries with neighboring teams.
  • Lead architectural migrations and decoupling while protecting existing functionality and dependent systems.
  • Design monitoring, detection, and alerting to identify incorrect or slow prices before they reach customers.
  • Create mechanisms to diagnose and explain why a quote cannot be produced.
  • Optimize architecture and technical systems to improve pricing performance and reduce quote latency.
  • Contribute to architecture decisions, design reviews, engineering standards, and development practices.
  • Guide engineers through pairing, knowledge sharing, and AI- and multi-agent-assisted workflows.
  • Serve as an escalation point for live pricing incidents and turn operational learnings into improvements.
  • Influence technical direction across teams and align stakeholders on service boundaries and ownership.
