Requirements

  • Have deep production backend Python experience.
  • Have designed and owned APIs at scale.
  • Have led a significant decoupling or migration of a live system without breaking dependent systems.
  • Have strong FastAPI and SQL skills.
  • Have experience with data- and analytics-heavy systems where numerical correctness has financial consequences.
  • Set technical direction across teams and negotiate service boundaries with neighboring teams.
  • Design multi-agent workflows using Claude or similar tools.
  • Apply product engineering judgment to balance speed, accuracy, and explainability.
  • Desirable: have domain knowledge in energy pricing, fintech, or neo-utilities.
  • Desirable: have experience building APIs consumed by external third parties.
  • Desirable: have experience with AWS and serverless patterns, including Lambda, event-driven services, and Postgres on RDS.
  • Desirable: have experience with Polars or making numerical code faster.

Responsibilities

  • Build and iterate on the Pricing API for performance, correctness, and potential third-party access.
  • Lead the extraction of pricing logic into a dedicated service and agree on boundaries with neighboring teams.
  • Design systems to detect pricing errors and prevent bad quotes from reaching customers.
  • Explain why a price cannot be provided.
  • Improve pricing reliability and speed for customer quotes.
  • Respond to live pricing incidents and turn findings into structural fixes on the roadmap.
  • Raise engineering standards through design reviews, pairing, and multi-agent workflows.
