Requirements
- Bring 7+ years of experience.
- Have deep and current Microsoft SQL Server administration experience.
- Have recent hands-on experience installing and configuring SQL Server on a server you manage yourself, including Windows Server on EC2 or on-premise.
- Have performed OS-level work beneath a live production instance.
- State the most recent SQL Server upgrade performed, including source and target versions, whether it was in-place or side-by-side, the year, and the Windows Server version pairing.
- Have Windows Server administration experience, including OS upgrades and migrations.
- Have experience with SQL Server high availability, including Always On Availability Groups and failover clustering.
- Have MySQL administration experience.
- Have experience with AWS EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, and CloudWatch.
- Have prior end-to-end ownership of a production database estate, including assessing an inherited environment and improving it.
- Have experience setting data standards and reviewing schema and data-access design across application teams.
- Bring AI proficiency, such as Claude, applied to day-to-day work.
Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the relational database estate across both engineering teams.
- Assess the inherited database environment and drive it to a measurably better state.
- Perform the time-critical OS upgrade as the first job.
- Administer and configure Microsoft SQL Server on Windows Server, including OS-level work beneath a live production instance.
- Administer MySQL running on RDS.
- Set data standards and review schema and data-access design across application teams.
- Set direction and standards to mature the database and data environment.
