Requirements

  • Have 7+ years of experience building and debugging complex web applications with vanilla JavaScript.
  • Bring detailed knowledge of web standards, web components, and browser APIs.
  • Be able to reverse-engineer obfuscated third-party code and reduce issues to minimal test cases.
  • Have experience triaging issues and leading incident response.
  • Have experience shipping code beyond the web, such as for native or desktop clients.
  • Be able to lead complex, ambiguous projects with little to no oversight.
  • Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Be interested in automating repetitive work and building agentic tooling.
  • Pass a background check as a condition of joining the team.
  • Attend video-conference meetings on camera.
  • Expect to travel at least twice a year for an all-hands meetup and a team retreat.
  • Commit an average of 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Own the web compatibility side of the triage process.
  • Debug issues in code the team does not control.
  • Distinguish site bugs from browser bugs and privacy protection-induced breakage.
  • Lead incident response when a top site breaks.
  • Ship durable fixes across Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android.
  • Build countermeasures for websites that detect DuckDuckGo privacy protections.
  • Shim browser APIs so sites work across browser engines and system webviews.
  • Work on related projects to prevent user churn and keep users coming back.
