Requirements
- Hold an MD or DO degree.
- Hold a valid medical license in New York or New Jersey.
- Hold a valid DEA license in New York or New Jersey; an active New Jersey DEA license is required.
- Have a Medicaid number in New York or New Jersey; a New Jersey Medicaid number is preferred.
- Be board eligible or board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry.
- Have experience with psychopharmacology management.
- Have experience working specifically with children and adolescents.
- Be able to screen for danger to self or others.
- Demonstrate ethical and behavioral standards of conduct.
Responsibilities
- Assess pediatric, adolescent, and young adult patients for mental and behavioral health disorders and formulate differential diagnoses.
- Conduct patient histories and initial evaluations.
- Provide medication management and counseling, and prescribe medications as permitted by licensure.
- Develop and modify treatment plans based on clinical assessments and reassessments using screening tools.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests when appropriate.
- Educate patients and parents about medication use, side effects, risks, benefits, and expected outcomes.
- Collaborate with therapists, medical leadership, primary care physicians, and other healthcare team members on patient care.
- Document patient visits in the electronic medical record.
- Provide appropriate referrals and supervise psychiatric nurse practitioners.
