Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree.
  • Have 3–5 years of experience as a paralegal or in a similar legal support role within a law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Demonstrate experience with New York landlord-tenant law.
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Have experience with case management or legal tracking tools.
  • Demonstrate strong organization and attention to detail when managing records, documentation, deadlines, and multiple matters.
  • Be able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills for working with counsel, property managers, accounting teams, ownership, and residents.
  • Preferred but not required: working knowledge of affordable housing, tenant rent vouchers, and NYCHA compliance.
  • Exercise sound judgment and professionalism when handling sensitive landlord-tenant information and communications.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact between ownership, property management teams, and outside counsel on disputes, eviction proceedings, and routine legal matters.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel to support timely resolution of legal matters and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Maintain case files, tracking systems, records, and reports for litigation, administrative proceedings, and compliance requirements.
  • Gather leases, correspondence, rent histories, account information, and other documentation needed to support legal matters.
  • Work with property management and accounting teams to help ensure compliance with court requirements and applicable legal obligations.
  • Draft routine legal correspondence, notices, internal communications, and memoranda related to landlord-tenant matters.
  • Organize resident meetings to review account balances, delinquency histories, case status, and lease obligations.
  • Review outside landlord-tenant counsel invoices and legal bills for accuracy and alignment with budget guidelines.
  • Monitor landlord-tenant laws and regulations and identify developments that may affect property management or ownership practices.
  • Recommend improvements to landlord-tenant and collections administration under senior legal and collections leadership.
