Requirements
- Have 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
- Have 2+ years of experience working in search or related recommendation engines.
- Have experience using backend programming languages such as Python or Kotlin.
- Have an extensive track record developing highly available distributed systems.
- Have experience with technologies such as AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
- Have experience developing consumer experiences using UI frameworks such as React.
- Have experience delivering major features or system components, or deprecating existing functionality, through a technical and execution plan.
- Write high-quality code that is easily understood and used by others.
- Be comfortable working across low-level language idioms and large-system architecture.
Responsibilities
- Set the team's technical strategy on a year-long time scale and connect it to critical, business-impacting projects.
- Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes.
- Own team operations and availability by establishing monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting.
- Set code review and design standards, and advocate for them beyond the team through writing and tech talks.
- Develop team talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example.
