Requirements

  • 2–4 years of experience in payroll tax compliance or a related field is preferred.
  • An associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems and tax software.
  • Advanced Excel skills and ability to work with detailed financial and tax data.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including identifying discrepancies and determining resolutions.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in tax calculations, filings, payments, and reconciliations.
  • Written and verbal communication skills for working with employees, management, and other stakeholders.
  • Time-management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and strict filing deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute within a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate, report, and pay federal, state, and local payroll taxes.
  • Prepare and file payroll tax returns, including Forms 941 and 940, state unemployment filings, and other applicable returns.
  • Process, reconcile, and monitor payroll tax payments to ensure accuracy and timely submission.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support internal and external tax audits by preparing schedules and documentation.
  • Monitor payroll tax legislation and regulations and communicate relevant impacts and upcoming requirements.
  • Maintain payroll software and tax systems, including current tax tables and configurations.
  • Assist with year-end reporting, including W-2s, 1099s, and other applicable payroll tax forms.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll tax questions and issues raised by employees and management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll tax processes and systems.
