Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field; advanced education may be considered alongside relevant professional experience.
- Approximately 15+ years of relevant experience with a B.S., 12+ years with an M.S., or 8+ years with a Ph.D.
- Deep knowledge of transmission system planning processes, methodologies, industry practices, and reliability requirements.
- Strong experience with transient stability, short-circuit, voltage, production costing, TPL compliance, and generator interconnection analysis.
- Proficiency with PSS/E and strong experience with Transmission Adequacy & Reliability Assessment (TARA), including N-1 contingency and flowgate analysis.
- Familiarity with NERC, FERC, and ISO/RTO requirements and processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to lead complex technical studies, collaborate with project teams, and present technical findings to clients.
- Ability to mentor engineers and consultants.
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
- Willingness to travel occasionally, approximately 3–5 times per year.
Responsibilities
- Lead advanced transmission planning studies covering stability, power flow, transfer capability, reliability, short-circuit, congestion management, and economic dispatch.
- Define project objectives, methodologies, scope, timelines, and deliverables as a primary client contact.
- Provide technical leadership, quality assurance, and oversight throughout project execution.
- Perform and oversee transmission adequacy and reliability assessments, including contingency, flowgate, and import/export limit analyses.
- Prepare, review, and present technical reports documenting assumptions, methodologies, findings, and recommendations.
- Support generator interconnection, production costing, TPL compliance, harmonics, and related transmission planning initiatives.
- Guide and mentor junior engineers and consultants.
- Contribute to proposals, client meetings, business development, and thought leadership activities.
