Requirements
- Have 5–8 years of hands-on HR experience in a generalist or HR manager role at a startup, scaleup, or similarly lean environment.
- Have working knowledge of Canada and US employment law basics across a distributed workforce.
- Bring performance management experience, including difficult conversations, writing PIPs, and supporting managers through terminations.
- Have experience with onboarding and offboarding at scale, including building checklists and managing processes.
- Have SOC II or similar compliance experience and be able to maintain HR audit evidence independently.
- Bring sound employee relations judgment and the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion.
- Be systems-oriented and able to learn HR tools quickly, build automations, and maintain accurate data.
- Be comfortable with basic IT tasks such as password resets, Google Workspace administration, and device coordination.
- Manage multiple responsibilities with strong organization and follow-through.
- Nice to have: experience in fintech, SaaS, or technology, preferably at Series A to Series C.
- Nice to have: familiarity with Rippling, Lattice, Ashby, Checkr, or Vanta; CHRP or equivalent Canadian HR certification; or experience coordinating external manager-training vendors.
Responsibilities
- Run onboarding for US and Canadian employees and contractors using Rippling, and own offboarding through access revocation, device return, equity cleanup, final pay, and system removal.
- Maintain accurate employee records, org charts, and HR data in Rippling.
- Administer US and Canadian benefits, including open enrollment, carrier coordination, and benefits renewals.
- Manage HR security policy and audit evidence for the annual SOC II audit, and maintain current security policies.
- Administer performance review cycles in Lattice and coach managers on expectations, performance concerns, and accountability conversations.
- Support managers with performance improvement plans and flag escalating performance concerns.
- Deliver manager training, track follow-through and outcomes, and coordinate external training providers.
- Maintain HR policies and the Employee Handbook, respond to employee relations matters, and support employment-law compliance.
- Coordinate recruiting logistics in Ashby with the Senior Talent Acquisition Partner.
- Prepare compensation recommendations and administer the annual compensation review process.
