Requirements

  • Have 8+ years of professional experience in database administration or closely related database disciplines.
  • Bring advanced hands-on expertise administering enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Have practical experience with SQL Server Clustering and SQL scripting.
  • Have experience with database provisioning, configuration, backup, restoration, and patching.
  • Have experience with performance tuning, High Availability, and Disaster Recovery.
  • Have experience with database monitoring and alerting, and database security.
  • Be able to independently troubleshoot complex database and server issues and perform root cause analysis.
  • Have experience managing database incidents, operational changes, and technical support in structured enterprise environments.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills for working with technical teams, customer stakeholders, and cross-functional groups.
  • Microsoft or SQL-related professional certification and previous federal government IT experience are preferred.
  • Cloud database administration, ServiceNow, Idera, and/or SolarWinds experience are preferred.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, or Microsoft Access is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise Microsoft SQL Server databases and SQL Server Cluster environments.
  • Install, provision, configure, upgrade, and patch SQL Server databases and servers.
  • Manage High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions, including backup, restoration, and recovery processes.
  • Tune and optimize SQL Server performance by analyzing metrics, queries, indexes, configurations, and infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain SQL scripts, database administration automation, configuration standards, and operational procedures.
  • Monitor database health, capacity, availability, and performance using tools such as Idera and SolarWinds.
  • Troubleshoot database-related application integrations, including SharePoint, with technical teams and customer stakeholders.
  • Manage database incidents, support requests, and change requests through ServiceNow and conduct root cause analysis.
  • Support database security, auditing, encryption, and compliance requirements.
  • Perform scheduled after-hours patching, server reboots, and maintenance, and document work for weekly customer support reporting.
