Requirements
- Have 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial commercial experience in Python and Django.
- Bring expert-level Python and Django skills, strong object-oriented design, and software engineering fundamentals.
- Have strong command of API design, service-oriented architecture, distributed systems, and asynchronous processing.
- Demonstrate expert-level relational data modelling, including producing ERDs and designing PostgreSQL schemas.
- Have experience building and operating Django-based services in production on AWS and Kubernetes.
- Have experience with Django REST Framework or FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Redis, Celery, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Have experience safely evolving complex relational data models in a large, long-lived production codebase.
- Be able to turn incomplete product requirements into clear technical solution designs and resolve ambiguity with product and engineering colleagues.
- Bring sound judgement in automated testing, observability, production reliability, security, and data integrity.
- Have strong working fluency with agentic coding tools and spec-driven development workflows.
- Have experience reviewing technical designs and code, explaining trade-offs, and coaching less-experienced engineers.
- Have experience working in cross-functional product teams with shared ownership of customer outcomes and production operation.
- Be based in the UK, Germany, Turkey, Poland, Italy, Spain, or Portugal, with the right to work there.
- Be available to work with substantial overlap with UK working hours.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain APIs, microservices, and data pipelines using Python, Django, Django REST Framework, FastAPI, and related tooling.
- Design service boundaries, API contracts, relational data models, and integration flows for property operations.
- Develop asynchronous and event-driven workflows using Celery and Redis.
- Write complex SQL, evolve PostgreSQL schemas safely, and optimise database performance.
- Review, refactor, and retire code to keep it readable, testable, and maintainable.
- Write automated tests and integrate them into CI/CD; instrument services with logs, metrics, traces, and alerts.
- Diagnose production incidents and design services for security, resilience, performance, and data integrity.
- Turn product behaviour into implementation-ready technical designs, including assumptions, service interactions, data changes, failure modes, rollout, rollback, and tests.
- Use agentic coding tools to generate, refactor, test, review, and document code, and evaluate generated output critically.
- Collaborate across product and engineering, review code and designs, and coach mid-level and junior engineers.
