Requirements

  • Have 5+ years of experience managing complex and litigated casualty claims.
  • Bring deep expertise handling severe to catastrophic injuries and fatalities.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of claims case-handling practices, legal liability, general insurance policy coverage, and state tort laws.
  • Have 4 to 6 years of directly related work experience; at least two years should ordinarily be in a team leader capacity.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent training.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical thinking, negotiation skills, and sound judgment.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills to communicate and negotiate with customers and conduct investigations.
  • Demonstrate leadership and time-management skills to delegate work and organize resources.
  • Hold a claims license where required by state.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the investigation, evaluation, and resolution of complex auto and homeowner’s casualty claims.
  • Assess coverage, liability, and damages; recommend settlement strategies and escalate cases for authority review as appropriate.
  • Identify potentially suspicious claims for referral to SIU and identify opportunities for third-party subrogation.
  • Collaborate with trial counsel and attend mediations, arbitrations, trials, hearings, and conferences.
  • Prepare detailed litigation and trial reports for local management and Home Office.
  • Communicate with policyholders, witnesses, attorneys, and claimants to gather information and provide guidance.
  • Respond to written and telephone inquiries, including status requests.
  • Maintain accurate reserves and recommend increases for cases in excess of authority.
  • Oversee outside and in-house counsel billing practices for compliance and cost efficiency.
  • Support the team by mentoring colleagues, stepping in for the Claims Team Manager when needed, and participating in special projects.
