Requirements

  • Have 5+ years managing complex and litigated casualty claims.
  • Bring deep expertise handling severe to catastrophic injuries and fatalities.
  • Have expert knowledge of coverage, liability, and complex claims handling procedures.
  • Be able to handle claims at the highest technical and complexity level.
  • Know state and federal laws applicable in the adjuster’s jurisdiction.
  • Have a full working knowledge of claims operations and procedures.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, investigative, and negotiation skills and sound judgment.
  • Have excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and at least 7 years of directly related experience.
  • Be able to obtain required licensing.
  • Attend training reliably and participate actively; attendance during training is mandatory.
  • Travel 10% for mediations, arbitrations, trials, or in-person events.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the investigation, evaluation, and resolution of complex auto and homeowner’s casualty claims.
  • Assess coverage, liability, and damages; recommend settlement strategies and escalate cases for authority review.
  • Identify suspicious claims for referral to SIU and opportunities for third-party subrogation.
  • Collaborate with trial counsel and attend mediations, arbitrations, trials, hearings, and conferences.
  • Prepare detailed litigation and trial reports for local management and Home Office.
  • Communicate with policyholders, witnesses, attorneys, and claimants to gather information and provide guidance.
  • Respond to written and telephone inquiries, including status reports.
  • Maintain accurate reserves and recommend increases on cases exceeding authority.
  • Oversee outside and in-house counsel billing practices for compliance and cost efficiency.
  • Support the team by mentoring colleagues, stepping in for the Claims Team Manager when needed, and participating in special projects.
