Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- 12–15 years of leadership experience in advocacy, organizing, campaigns, public policy, civic engagement, democracy reform, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience managing experienced managers, with a demonstrated ability to coach and develop high-performing leaders.
- Demonstrated success leading complex, multi-state or multi-regional programs, campaigns, or initiatives.
- Proven ability to provide executive-level strategic counsel and thought partnership to senior leaders.
- Experience building and sustaining relationships with coalition partners, funders, and public officials.
- Ability to influence and collaborate across departments to drive organizational alignment.
- Strong political judgment and ability to assess risk and make sound strategic decisions under pressure.
- Experience overseeing organizational planning, performance management, and accountability systems.
- Exceptional written, verbal, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly (approximately 40%) to support state programs and external partnerships.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coach a team of State Directors, providing executive-level support and strategic guidance.
- Develop consistent leadership practices and provide oversight on campaign strategies, staffing, and resource allocation across state programs.
- Partner with internal departments like Communications, Policy, and Operations to ensure national priorities are implemented at the state level.
- Represent the organization in national and regional democracy coalitions and at high-level partner convenings.
- Monitor state program performance, budgets, and compliance while developing department-wide operational systems.
- Serve as a senior advisor to the Executive Vice President for State Campaigns & Programs.
