Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in design engineering of electrical distribution equipment, preferably in a transformer manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in engineering design and analysis tools such as CAD, FEA, and simulation software.
- Proficiency in productivity and ERP software.
- Expertise in distribution transformer design, manufacturing processes, and industry standards (ANSI, ASTM, IEEE, CSA).
- Strong understanding of transformer operating principles, sheet metal fabrication, tank design, and thermal cooling.
- Understanding of electrical wiring and related systems.
- Strong project management skills to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to work independently and in diverse teams.
- Must be able to complete a 3-week orientation on-site.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and review mechanical specifications for distribution transformers ensuring customer compliance.
- Develop tank, core-coil frame assemblies, cooling systems, and lifting features for custom configurations.
- Perform mechanical calculations for structural strength, short circuit forces, and thermal performance.
- Utilize engineering software like AutoCAD or SolidEdge to prepare manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and 3D CAD models.
- Interpret and apply industry standards such as IEEE, ASTM, and CSA to design and testing processes.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and test teams to resolve non-conformances and implement engineering changes.
- Provide technical support for weld specifications, component selection, and fit-up requirements.
