Requirements
- Experience managing engineers directly, ideally 5+ on a product or platform team.
- Credible engineering background with experience shipping production software.
- Proven track record of improving team shipping predictability.
- Fluency with modern AI product development (evals, experiment design, dataset curation).
- First-hand experience using AI in personal engineering workflows.
- Experience operating in high-complexity domains with comfort in ambiguity.
- Strong product partnership instincts and ability to hold own with non-engineering stakeholders.
- Excellent written communication skills suitable for a remote-first, documentation-heavy environment.
- Experience providing direct feedback and managing performance.
- Knowledge of operational reliability practices (SLOs, incident response, postmortems).
- Experience with hiring, interviewing, and closing candidates.
- Keen eye for security risks related to sensitive personal data.
Responsibilities
- Own pod performance, including planning, retros, and execution follow-through.
- Remove roadblocks for engineers and maintain high standards for output.
- Run weekly 1:1s and provide continuous, specific feedback to direct reports.
- Manage performance, including coaching and addressing gaps with improvement plans.
- Partner with the Product Manager to define high-value work and challenge complex requirements.
- Partner with the Technical Lead on architecture and quality while maintaining technical depth.
- Own onboarding processes and ensure new hires ramp quickly.
- Represent engineering tradeoffs to stakeholders and escalate risks early.
