Requirements
- 7+ years of backend development experience.
- 3+ years focused on data platforms and backend infrastructure for data-centric applications (transactional systems, event pipelines, APIs).
- Strong proficiency in SQL with production-level experience in PostgreSQL.
- Hands-on experience with data streaming and event processing using Kafka or equivalent (RabbitMQ, Pulsar, Amazon Kinesis).
- Proficiency in Julia or Python.
- Experience deploying and operating services in containerized environments using Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Helm.
- Demonstrated track record of mentoring engineers and improving team processes, tooling, or documentation.
- Experience with GraphQL and TypeScript/Node.js (specifically for the Datastore Systems role).
- Experience with advanced PostgreSQL operations (query planner, EXPLAIN, schema evolution) (specifically for the PostgreSQL & Data Modeling role).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for asynchronous environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead design and architecture for complex projects within the Datastore, weighing implementation trade-offs using data.
- Partner with product managers, scientific, and clinical stakeholders to translate requirements into new integrations and services.
- Debug and profile ambiguous problems that cross system boundaries.
- Draft RFCs to lead complex feature discovery and technical design phases.
- Plan individual and team work, balancing speed, generalizability, and technical debt.
- Teach and mentor other engineers, providing regular feedback and acting as a technical lead.
- Leverage stakeholder feedback to improve operational robustness and ease of use of Datastore services.
