Requirements
- 5+ years of related experience.
- Demonstrated track record of leading and delivering production-ready, scalable distributed systems.
- Proven experience architecting and implementing microservice architectures at scale.
- Strong proficiency in modern programming languages like Java or Python.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems principles, including consistency models and reliability patterns.
- Experience designing and implementing APIs such as REST or GraphQL.
- Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, container orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS), and infrastructure as code (Terraform).
- Experience with data architecture, including relational and NoSQL databases.
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and observability strategies.
- Excellent communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the strategic direction for backend and full-stack engineering practices, architecture, and technical excellence.
- Lead the development of scalable, reliable, and secure distributed systems serving government customers.
- Design and implement modern service architectures, data pipelines, and infrastructure patterns.
- Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to balance technical feasibility with business requirements.
- Identify opportunities to modernize backend systems and lead large-scale technical initiatives.
- Establish and champion engineering best practices including API design, security standards, and code quality.
- Mentor and coach engineers at all levels to build organizational backend engineering capability.
