- Extensive knowledge of medical underwriting for life insurance
- Working knowledge of medical terminology and its impact on mortality and morbidity
- Ability to assess complex risk profiles beyond standard guidelines
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Data entry proficiency
- Ability to work effectively in a paperless workflow environment
- Strong interpersonal, prioritization, and multitasking skills
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Disability insurance knowledge is a plus
Responsibilities
- Underwrite Life and Disability Income applications according to established guidelines
- Evaluate non-standard applications and supporting documentation
- Determine risk classification and issue or decline cases within authority limits
- Request additional information from applicants when necessary
- Review contestable claims for potential misrepresentation
- Enter and manage data within the underwriting tracking system
- Collaborate with company employees and Third Party Administrators
- Train and mentor new underwriting staff
