Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, Functional Safety, Autonomous Systems, or Robotics.
- Master’s degree or PhD and 5+ years of experience in the aforementioned fields.
- 3+ years of experience leading safety-critical development, validation, or safety assurance programs for autonomous driving or similar technologies.
- Hands-on technical leadership experience with a proven track record of growing teams.
- Proven ability to define quantitative performance targets and acceptance criteria.
- Working expertise in hazard and safety analysis methods (STPA, HAZOP, FMEA).
- Expertise in leveraging large-scale simulation, track, and road data for technical insights.
- Familiarity with industry standards including SOTIF, ISO 26262, UL4600, and AVSC behavior competencies.
- Strong communication skills for presenting complex concepts to peers and executive leadership.
- Ability to build consensus across multidisciplinary teams through technical influence.
Responsibilities
- Own Motional’s safety-critical functions, including collision detection and response across autonomy and remote assistance.
- Establish and expand human driving benchmarks across safety, comfort, and assertiveness.
- Define coverage and gap analysis for validation test suites.
- Deliver systems engineering evidence such as hazard analysis, STPA, HAZOP, and FMEA.
- Scale crash database analysis and automated continuous monitoring tools.
- Mentor and grow a high-performing engineering team in a culture of technical excellence.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to drive design improvements and ensure safety criteria are met.
