Requirements
- 12+ years of experience building and operating distributed backend systems.
- Strong experience in payments, fintech, or correctness-critical systems like settlement or transaction processing.
- Proven track record of leveraging AI to improve engineering outcomes and enabling team-wide adoption.
- Experience leading complex, cross-team initiatives.
- Deep expertise in system design, including event-driven architectures and microservices.
- Hands-on engineering mindset with ability to dive into code, services, and infrastructure.
- Strong decision-making ability for evaluating tradeoffs in ambiguous situations.
- Experience mentoring senior engineers and raising engineering standards.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
- Experience with backend technologies like C#/.NET or similar.
- Ability to evaluate and select AI tools, models, and workflows.
- Ability to define metrics and measure the impact of AI adoption.
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and evolution of Zip’s real-time money movement and payments platform.
- Lead cross-team technical direction across distributed systems while embedding AI into engineering workflows and product capabilities.
- Design systems that ensure safe, reliable money movement at scale.
- Define and evolve platform patterns for event-driven architectures.
- Lead ambiguous, high-impact initiatives from concept to production across multiple teams.
- Define and standardize AI-assisted engineering patterns to be adopted across teams.
- Drive adoption of AI by coaching engineers, establishing best practices, and identifying AI-driven efficiencies.
- Partner with platform and tooling teams to integrate AI capabilities into the developer ecosystem.
