Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Environmental Science, Engineering, Waste Management, or Data Analytics preferred.
- 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in waste characterization, materials management, or environmental data analysis.
- Advanced proficiency in Python and/or R for data management, statistical analysis, and automation.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with experience managing large or complex datasets.
- Strong knowledge of waste characterization methodologies, material classification systems, and recycling performance metrics.
- Proven experience designing or overseeing data governance, QA/QC, and quality management practices.
- Demonstrated ability to create visualizations, dashboards, and technical reports.
- Strong technical writing capabilities for developing SOPs, governance frameworks, and data standards.
- Understanding of extended producer responsibility (EPR) programs and related regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent project leadership and stakeholder management skills.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of processes for intake and integration of waste characterization datasets.
- Oversee data quality assurance, including standardization, validation, metadata management, and version control.
- Establish and maintain national sort category frameworks to ensure consistency across programs.
- Evaluate state and local waste characterization studies for methodological alignment and integration.
- Direct comparative and trend analyses to identify patterns and support cross-state benchmarking.
- Develop and improve SOPs covering data intake, QA/QC, and data governance.
- Partner with Data & Analytics teams to align characterization structures with enterprise architecture.
