Requirements
- 8+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering.
- Proven experience designing and shipping customer-facing web applications.
- Strong professional experience with Java or Scala.
- Rust experience is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to design, build, and operate distributed systems on cloud infrastructure at scale.
- Ability to create clear Technical Design Documents for senior peers and product stakeholders.
- Strong product and user-oriented mindset with the ability to connect technical decisions to customer outcomes.
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills with engineers, product managers, and ML/data science teams.
- Hands-on experience with agentic engineering tools and AI-assisted development workflows.
- Strong ability to understand complex codebases and take ownership of code quality.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction for backend development, designing and implementing scalable, reliable, and secure web application systems.
- Develop production-grade backend services while establishing engineering standards, mentoring teammates, and raising overall programming maturity.
- Serve as the backend voice in cross-team planning and help connect engineering, product, machine learning, data science, and other functions during execution.
- Contribute to complex customer-facing product development, ensuring applications are extensible, scalable, secure, and designed around real user needs.
- Architect and build systems that apply machine learning techniques to large datasets and simplify labor-intensive healthcare processes.
- Design distributed systems capable of delivering high performance, availability, and reliability across cloud environments.
- Develop technical design documents that translate ambiguous product requirements into concrete backend architectures.
- Introduce agentic engineering practices into everyday development and help the team adopt AI-assisted workflows.
- Review complex code, maintain high standards for quality, and identify opportunities to improve architecture and performance.
