Requirements

  • 5+ years of payroll operations experience with direct ownership of multi-state processing.
  • Advanced technical proficiency with HRIS and enterprise payroll platforms.
  • Strong analytical and data-validation capabilities.
  • Working knowledge of wage and hour regulations and multi-state tax compliance.
  • Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills, including macros or query tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is a plus.
  • Experience with Rippling or comparable enterprise payroll platforms is preferred.
  • Experience processing equity transactions and payroll tax for equity-based compensation is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end biweekly payroll processing as the lead Preparer for on-cycle and off-cycle runs.
  • Manage payroll exceptions, manual overrides, system calculations, and audit trails.
  • Review payroll results, earnings, deductions, and pay group configurations to ensure accuracy.
  • Validate paycheck-level taxation across multiple states and address withholding discrepancies.
  • Process garnishments, levies, and involuntary deductions.
  • Research multi-state tax requirements and wage and hour regulations.
  • Administer equity transactions, supplemental withholding, and equity-to-payroll audit logs.
  • Manage payroll system configurations, automations, and documentation.
  • Develop ad hoc reports and track payroll key performance indicators.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex employee payroll inquiries.
