- Generally, 5+ years of experience in underwriting or a related field.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to travel occasionally.
- Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred (e.g., AU, CPCU, CIC, INS, or ARM).
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal business in accordance with company guidelines and risk appetite.
- Analyze risk data to make informed decisions on coverage, pricing, and terms.
- Collaborate with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients to obtain information and clarify details.
- Order and review reports such as motor vehicle reports, loss history, and inspections to inform decisions.
- Ensure proper documentation of underwriting decisions and compliance with state and federal insurance regulations.
- Evaluate existing policies for potential renewal or modification.
- Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and effectively to internal teams, agents, and brokers.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions.
- Develop and maintain effective business relationships to generate new business and retain profitable accounts.
- Interpret, explain, and market insurance products and services.
