Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years focused on healthcare EDI.
  • Strong expertise in HIPAA X12 transactions (837, 835, 270/271, 276/277, 278), HL7, and FHIR standards.
  • Hands-on programming experience with Java, C#, Go, or comparable languages.
  • Proven experience developing REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
  • Practical experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native development.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and/or NoSQL databases, performance optimization, and high-volume transaction processing.
  • Understanding of healthcare interoperability, data governance, security best practices, and payer workflows.
  • Strong technical leadership, communication, mentoring, and problem-solving skills.
  • Preferred: experience with Edifecs xEngine, XEServer, EAM, or SpecBuilder.
  • Preferred: experience with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud, and knowledge of SMART on FHIR, OAuth2, and OpenID Connect.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical architecture and implementation for enterprise healthcare integration initiatives spanning HIPAA X12 transactions, HL7, and FHIR APIs.
  • Design and develop scalable data exchange solutions, transformation workflows, mappings, validation frameworks, error handling, and reconciliation processes.
  • Build and maintain integrations connecting internal platforms with payers, providers, clearinghouses, and third-party vendors.
  • Guide the modernization of legacy EDI capabilities toward microservices, event-driven architectures, cloud-native deployments, and real-time interoperability.
  • Establish engineering standards, lead design reviews, promote best practices, and mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Partner with DevOps and SRE teams to automate deployments, improve scalability and resiliency, and maintain high availability.
  • Monitor system performance, investigate production issues, and contribute to incident resolution.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Business Analysis, and external partners to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
