Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a history of owning features or systems from conception through production deployment.
- Deep proficiency with Ruby on Rails, including experience designing, building, maintaining, and scaling robust backend systems.
- Strong understanding of relational database design, query optimization, architecture, and technical trade-offs.
- A strong product-first mindset, with the ability to understand user problems, identify gaps in requirements, and advocate for solutions.
- Excellent communication skills for remote environments, including clear documentation and asynchronous collaboration.
- Experience working in fast-paced startup or high-growth environments.
- Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy.
- Experience with React and/or Flutter (plus).
- Hands-on experience with AWS and modern DevOps practices (plus).
- Familiarity with security and compliance requirements such as HIPAA and SOC 2 (valuable).
Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and scale full-stack features across Ruby on Rails, React, and Flutter, taking ownership from technical design and implementation through deployment and iteration.
- Translate complex or ambiguous user needs into intuitive, reliable, and technically sound product solutions.
- Make architectural and technical decisions independently while balancing product priorities, engineering constraints, maintainability, security, and long-term scalability.
- Take responsibility for production systems, investigating incidents, resolving reliability issues, and implementing sustainable improvements to system performance and resilience.
- Proactively identify technical debt, architectural weaknesses, and areas of system fragility.
- Partner closely with engineering and cross-functional stakeholders to refine solutions and ensure alignment between product goals and implementation.
- Contribute to a strong engineering culture through thoughtful code reviews, documentation, mentorship, and knowledge sharing.
- Support the evolution of engineering practices as the organization scales.
