Requirements
- 10+ years of tax experience, with specific technical depth in REIT taxation.
- Experience defending tax positions to auditors or regulators with strong documentation discipline.
- Proven experience delivering tax services through outside advisors, offshore centers, or fund administrators.
- Track record of making independent, sound tax calls and taking ownership of outcomes.
- Ability to drive outcomes across Finance, Legal, Real Estate, Venture, and Engineering departments.
- Capability to translate complex tax matters for non-tax audiences including executives and the board.
- Comfort working in a small, fast-moving, remote organization.
- CPA, JD/LLM, or equivalent designation preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Responsibilities
- Own technical tax positions across the REIT and RIC platform and manage associated risks.
- Design and execute the strategy for split between in-house work and external service providers.
- Manage compliance across the platform, including testing, nexus determinations, and SEC reporting.
- Oversee review controls for investor 1099 and K-1 reporting processes.
- Collaborate with internal real estate and venture teams on transaction structuring.
- Develop and mentor a small, senior in-house tax team.
- Drive outcomes across Finance, Legal, and Engineering partners.
