Requirements

8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Expertise in designing for scalability, including shared dependencies like authentication and supplier integrations.
Ability to review designs for scalability, cost-efficiency, and maintainability.
Experience working as a technical peer to Staff engineers and engineering managers.
Proficiency in designing services using patterns for iterative, autonomous development.
Ability to design for peak load and validate service limits via testing.
Experience building components with clear documentation and migration paths for other teams.
Deep understanding of secure-by-default habits including secrets management, input validation, and data handling.
Working knowledge of OWASP Top 10.
Ability to explain every line of generated code used in production.
Strong written English communication skills.
Collaborative and flexible technical argumentation style.

Responsibilities

Dig into existing multi-product architectures to understand current design decisions.
Deliver evidence-based assessments of code and design quality across product lines.
Write and review RFCs and ADRs for new and evolving systems, making assumptions and failure modes explicit.
Design extend-vs-rebuild strategies with built-in migration and rollback paths.
Work within constraints including multi-currency payments, PCI DSS scope, and significant traffic spikes.
Participate in team rituals including planning, standups, and design reviews as a technical peer.
