Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5–10 years of experience in aviation writing, editing, journalism, or editorial management.
- FAA Private Pilot Certificate with an instrument rating (required).
- Strong knowledge of general aviation terminology, safety considerations, and industry issues.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with high attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to lead creative projects and mentor contributors.
- Strong project management skills with ability to handle competing priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and tools.
- FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate and/or Certified Flight Instructor (preferred).
- Master’s degree in Journalism or related field (preferred).
- Experience in video production, public relations, or executive ghostwriting (preferred).
Responsibilities
- Produce original and insightful general aviation safety content across diverse media, including articles, video scripts, research reports, and social media.
- Write monthly safety articles for aviation magazines with a focus on accuracy, research, and adherence to safety mission standards.
- Generate editorial story ideas leveraging personal flying experience and industry relationships.
- Manage content release calendars and coordinate asset distribution across channels.
- Recruit, onboard, and manage freelance contributors, providing feedback and quality control.
- Mentor team members and contribute to a culture of editorial excellence.
- Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and conventions as required.
- Manage multiple editorial projects and competing deadlines while maintaining high standards.
