Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least three years of experience in healthcare insurance accounts receivable.
  • Experience within a hospital or hospital system preferred.
  • Experience identifying billing errors, resubmitting claims, and managing denials.
  • Proficiency reviewing EOBs and CMS-1500 forms.
  • Strong understanding of medical business office procedures and third-party payer billing.
  • At least three years of experience using accounts receivable software and payer portals.
  • Experience working with Medicare and Medicaid.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and manage high-volume workloads.
  • Experience with Epic preferred.
  • Experience managing both hospital/facility and physician/professional-fee accounts receivable preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage outstanding government and commercial healthcare insurance receivables, researching unpaid, denied, and underpaid claims.
  • Verify patient eligibility, service authorizations, and obtain control numbers.
  • Investigate billing errors, payment discrepancies, and denials to resolve or resubmit claims.
  • Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and billing documentation to identify recovery opportunities.
  • Contact insurance carriers by phone or correspondence to clarify requirements and resolve issues.
  • Prepare technical appeal letters and support clinical audit reviews.
  • Research contracts to validate underpayments against reimbursement requirements.
  • Update patient records, maintain account notes, and adhere to compliance protocols.
