Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least three years of experience in healthcare insurance accounts receivable.
- Experience within a hospital or hospital system preferred.
- Experience identifying billing errors, resubmitting claims, and managing denials.
- Proficiency reviewing EOBs and CMS-1500 forms.
- Strong understanding of medical business office procedures and third-party payer billing.
- At least three years of experience using accounts receivable software and payer portals.
- Experience working with Medicare and Medicaid.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and manage high-volume workloads.
- Experience with Epic preferred.
- Experience managing both hospital/facility and physician/professional-fee accounts receivable preferred.
Responsibilities
- Manage outstanding government and commercial healthcare insurance receivables, researching unpaid, denied, and underpaid claims.
- Verify patient eligibility, service authorizations, and obtain control numbers.
- Investigate billing errors, payment discrepancies, and denials to resolve or resubmit claims.
- Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and billing documentation to identify recovery opportunities.
- Contact insurance carriers by phone or correspondence to clarify requirements and resolve issues.
- Prepare technical appeal letters and support clinical audit reviews.
- Research contracts to validate underpayments against reimbursement requirements.
- Update patient records, maintain account notes, and adhere to compliance protocols.
