Requirements
- Active AHIMA credential (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCA) or AAPC credential (COC, CCS-P, or CPC).
- At least two years of recent, hands-on medical coding experience in a production environment.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and pathophysiology.
- Proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS code sets.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to consistently meet a 95% quality threshold.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment coding skills assessment.
- Associate degree in Health Information Management or a related discipline is preferred.
- Familiarity with systems like Rcx, Cerner, or Optum is an advantage.
Responsibilities
- Review clinical records and accurately select and sequence ICD-10, CPT, and/or HCPCS codes for assigned professional-fee patient types.
- Analyze clinical documentation to confirm diagnoses and procedures are supported and accurately abstracted.
- Apply coding guidelines, government regulations, and payer requirements to ensure compliance.
- Achieve a 95% coding accuracy standard while meeting established production expectations.
- Serve as a coding resource to clarify documentation and support provider queries.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and protect patient and provider information.
- Participate in client meetings, training sessions, and internal communications.
