Requirements
- 10+ years of engineering experience.
- 3+ years of experience directly managing senior engineers.
- Experience leading teams of 15+ engineers across multiple concurrent projects.
- Technical hands-on ability to read architecture, identify flaws, and propose improvements.
- Strong full stack depth with TypeScript, React, Node.js, Python, or Go.
- Proven experience building and shipping production agentic applications, including orchestration and tool-calling patterns.
- Experience setting up evaluation harnesses and testing infrastructure.
- Familiarity with MLOps or LLMOps practices.
- Experience with at least one major cloud provider (GCP, AWS, Azure).
- Experience in consulting, agency, or forward deployed engineering roles.
- Track record of developing people through training or mentorship programs.
- Exceptional communication skills across executives and staff engineers.
Responsibilities
- Co-own the AI engineering team of roughly 30 forward deployed engineers alongside existing engineering leaders.
- Own the health and happiness of the team through regular 1:1s, catching disengagement, burnout, and bench frustration.
- Run performance reviews against the FDE rubric, weighing consulting skills as equally important as technical skills.
- Level up the team as Forward Deployed Engineers through training sessions, playbooks, checklists, pairing, and internal writeups.
- Define and maintain the baseline AI competency for the team.
- Codify best practices into documented patterns.
- Track engagement health, surfacing delivery risk and client relationship issues early.
- Review architectures and provide guidance on evaluation strategy and instrumentation.
- Step onto engagements as technical lead when needed.
- Partner with talent on sourcing, interviewing, and hiring decisions.
- Staff engagements, match engineers to projects, and support scoping and pre-sales conversations.
