Requirements

  • Commitment to a nonpartisan mission focused on strengthening democracy and advancing equity.
  • Proven experience leading successful state-level or national issue-based advocacy campaigns.
  • Strong understanding of the U.S. legislative process, including policy research, drafting, and lobbying.
  • Knowledge of political dynamics in at least one U.S. state, including established relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Significant experience in management, specifically coaching and developing mid-level and senior professionals.
  • Ability to lead coalitions and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Track record of leading organization-wide change initiatives and influencing shared goals.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex issues.
  • Proficiency with standard productivity tools including Microsoft Office, Slack, and Zoom.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately one week per month.
  • Must adhere to nonpartisan political neutrality requirements regarding elected office and campaign involvement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support State Directors across multiple states to meet programmatic, financial, and operational goals.
  • Develop and execute proactive advocacy strategies based on state-specific political and legislative landscapes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, donors, policymakers, and coalition partners.
  • Oversee state budgets, resource allocation, and operational efficiency while supporting organizational improvement.
  • Lead professional development, coaching, and capacity-building for state teams.
  • Represent state-level work externally through media, communications, and relationship building.
  • Collaborate with Development teams on fundraising goals, grant proposals, and reporting.
  • Partner with leadership to drive organizational change initiatives and align state, program, and operational strategies.
