Requirements
- 7+ years of backend engineering experience, deeply hands-on in Python.
- Proven production experience with FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Celery, Postgres, and Redis.
- Strong AWS architecture experience, including EKS, Lambda, RDS, SQS, SNS, and EventBridge.
- Working knowledge of GCP.
- Experience designing high-load, latency-sensitive, and geo-distributed systems.
- Demonstrated pragmatic judgment regarding buy vs. build vs. assemble approaches.
- Ability to research, weigh tradeoffs, document decisions, and explain them to diverse stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Define backend architecture standards and major technical decisions across teams.
- Drive the transition from a monolith toward a modular, service-oriented backend architecture.
- Develop service blueprints including API conventions, event-driven patterns, testing, and observability.
- Design cloud architecture across AWS and GCP, focusing on multi-region and geo-distributed deployments.
- Optimize high-load, real-time systems like live class infrastructure and latency budgets.
- Evaluate build vs. buy decisions, including managed services, no-code tools, and agentic coding workflows.
- Develop production-critical components, refactors, and proof-of-concepts.
