Requirements
- Active Texas Bar License in good standing.
- 5–8 years of experience in law firm and/or in-house legal roles.
- Demonstrated ability to independently draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements.
- Experience with real estate transactions such as ground leases, land acquisition, and easements.
- Experience working with State of Texas agencies, public-sector entities, or higher education institutions.
- Working knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA compliance frameworks.
- Ability to understand and translate technical AI, data center, and cloud infrastructure concepts into legal language.
- Comfortable operating independently and building a legal function without existing support staff.
- Must be based in Texas (Texas residency required).
- Availability for periodic travel to data center sites and university campuses.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and leadership team on strategic planning and deal structuring.
- Build and scale the organization's legal and governance processes from the ground up.
- Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of commercial agreements, including SaaS, services, and vendor contracts.
- Lead legal efforts for real estate transactions, including ground leases, title review, and land acquisition.
- Navigate complex procurement frameworks for state agencies and higher education institutions.
- Advise on data privacy (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA), AI regulatory matters, and employment law.
- Establish and maintain relationships with external counsel.
