Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in the physical design of high-voltage substations.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Strong understanding of substation engineering principles and industry safety standards.
  • Experience performing engineering calculations and reviewing technical design packages.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and technical calculation tools like Mathcad.
  • Familiarity with engineering software (AutoCAD, CDEGS, CYMCAP, LitePro, FEAP, Southwire SAG/Ten, Alcoa, Vehicle Tracking, SAP-2000, or similar).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects within deadlines.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing technical training.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for construction site support.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Review and develop physical substation design packages including conduit systems, grounding, and equipment layouts.
  • Perform and validate engineering calculations including grounding, lightning protection, arc-flash analysis, and insulation coordination.
  • Prepare and review material descriptions and equipment documentation for substation components.
  • Provide technical guidance to construction teams, project managers, and field personnel.
  • Manage assigned project design activities, schedules, and cross-discipline coordination.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and customer representatives to ensure alignment with specifications.
  • Support continuous improvement of engineering processes and project delivery.
  • Travel periodically to customer locations and construction sites for meetings and inspections.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records and quality control standards.
